Fred’s Bay View 2019 Performance Notes:
- mm. 1-6: Only the quarter-notes have the stopped techniques. The half notes and whole notes are rung normally with circular extensions.
- mm. 1-6: Some positions have awkward combinations which constantly change. Work the muscle memory slowly. Memorize them. On the final page of these notes is a page with a staff for each position. Please cut out the staff that applies to your bells and tape it on the top of page 4. This will simplify reading and memorizing your notes, and alleviate a noisy page turn. Again, you must memorize these measures. It only takes one person guessing at the strike point to muddy the entire ensemble.
- mm. 1-4: P1 and P2 will pluck, not mart
- m. 10.2: The a tempo starts on beat 2. Watch for the damping of the quarter note on beat 2.
- mm. 62-80: The + symbols that are interspersed with numbers (1 + 2 + 3 +) show the subdivision of the beat as some echoes are on the offbeat. Do not confuse these with mallet indications.
- mm. 111-124: The LVs are only for the sixteenth-notes. Make sure any eighth-notes are carefully damped.
- mm. 126-129, 131-134: All treble clef bells which are rung in m. 126 or 131 will begin a shake as my gesture reaches them. (see the performance notes in the score).
- m. 135: Note the subito p on the second eighth-note. From here all bells will drop low behind the risers, gradually lifting as we crescendo. The LV continues until the R in m. 143. Make a circle at a continuous speed from note to note, including those who ring beat 3.
- m. 145: Double all notes on chimes. P4 will ring the A4 chime and P11 will ring the A6,7 chimes so that everyone participates in the final chord.
